Hi guys,
I am looking to buy solid quarter sawn oak, prefinished and have it installed in my house. I am surprised that it is not popular and the only company that make it here in Ontario, Canada is Coswick. Does anybody know of any other company that makes it or distribute it here? Second question. I went to several hardwood stores and asked how long they acclimatize before installation and the answer was the same - we do not acclimatize, we deliver and install. Is this the normal practise? It is against everything I know about installation.
Thanks,
Val

It's possible to tell if the new wood is ready to instal with a moisture meter.
As a general rule most times the wood comes from the mill too dry. That is why it needs to acclimate. Some mills may have just the right moisture content to install right away. It can always acclimate after it is down.
We don't do much pre-finished.
Good luck.

Acclimation is very necessary. I would demand it gets acclimatized. I bet those guys dont even own a meter to check the wood and subfloor. Refer them to The Wood Handbook and NWFA installation guidelines.
