I have a medium size entry with 2 1/4 solid red oak. I want to remove this to replace it with Braz. Cherry on entire main level.

Can anyone give me advice on how to do this tear out. It's approx. 150 sq ft that needs tear out. Thanks.

I use 3ft Gorilla Bars and pry it up. Very easy that way.

Jerry,

Do you also use the gorilla bar for Vinyl? I have about 150 sq feet of vinyl in my kitchen.

I do when I am removing the vinyl and 1/4" ply. underlayment together. Cut it into manageable strips first. I am assuming it does not contain asbestos when I say this.

Thanks Jerry....I am not looking forward to that project. No asbestos, the home was built in 02.

Getting it up is not all that bad. The staples left behind can be a real problem. Best thing for me is to use a 5" or 8" razor scraper and just chop em off flush. A dull blade works better.

The 'razor scraper', now that's juicy! I've been staring at the tile with 1/4" underlayment kitchen for a good while and thinking about how best to remove the staples once I pull it up.

That seems like a very good trick. Thank you.
