I am looking at have BR-111 5/16" Santos Mahogany solid put into my house to replace the carpet in about 1000s.f. of it. I hear conflicting stories. What is the consensus out there about this wood on concrete and were can I find a good installer?

Thanks,

CJ

My suggestion would be to buy the engineered if its going on concrete. Solid wood direct glue down is asking for problems imo. What would be your reasoning for picking the solid? As for a good installer? hard to find so be sure to check some refrrences and I belive the best way is too look at some recent work they have done.

Here's a high quality alternative to a solid Santos Mahogany

BR111 Engineered Triangulo. Pay no shipping if you live near Orlando, Jacksonville, or Pompano Beach.

If you are set on the solid 5/16, I would suggest installing a plywood sub floor (search this site for more info). If you are in the Central Florida area Sean H on this board is a good installer, look around the board and at the posts there are alot of good installers from all over. I am a great installer (just ask me) but I am not taking new business.

Yeah I live about 30 minutes outside of Orlando. The reason I was wanting solid was when I looked at it vs. the engineered it just flat out looked better. Anyone looking for business in the area (Orlando-Daytona Beach) let me know!!

The cost difference between plywood and glue is not that much. You will pay a little more for the installation. Take a look at this thread where Perry, Gary, and I discuss the merits of glue vs plywood installs including price Why should I do a glue install.
