San Diego. 1922 single family home with new addition. Ready for flooring. Purchaced 3/4-inch solid brazilian walnut (Bellawood).

I have an addition to the kitchen on the first floor that enlarged the kichen by 4-feet toward the rear yard. The original house is 1922 3/8-inch solid oak on 1x6 plank subfloor on wood joists. The addition is slab on grade and is even with the old subfloor height. The new slab part of the kitchen is 4-ft x 10-ft. We want to put the 3/4" solid flooring over the whole kitchen (10'x16') with the new flooring running 12-ft over the wood joists and continuing 4-ft over the slab addition. One more thing; the slab is 4-ft x 10-ft and is elevated about 14-inches above the finish grade, with an 18-inch-deep footing all around (i.e., it's thick and up in air). The concrete was placed 5-months ago and a rubber mat does not make moisture underneath.

Given this condition, would the solid flooring on slab be OK, and can we run it across the two (even) subfloors, nailing onto wood and gluing onto concrete? Waddaya think?

Without actually seeing it, I can't advise, what to do. Sometimes you can do exactly as you wish, and sometimes, you have to play some aces, to win the hand.

Ever do, or hear of, someone nailing part and gluing part across one room? It would seem that the small, thick, elevated slab in a dry climate. . .
