I have a southward facing 13x22 room that I'll be laying 3.25 flooring in. The flooring will then transition through a doorway and on into an adjoining bedroom. The 13x22 room has a set of french doors and an additional window on the same wall (I say this because a fair amount of sun/warmth comes in through them). The runs of the boards will be 22 feet long as I work my way across the 13 feet from wall to wall.

Is this area large enough that I should concern myself with splitting the room, starting in the middle and using spline to reverse the direction of the tongue? I've got the spline, so thats not an issue.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks !

Why should you start in the middle. please start at one of the ends. I like to use the out side wall.

The angle of the staple will only allow the wood to expand one way .
use your outside wall to mark your running and working lines .

So if you spline it, that means your staple angle will still be the same direction?

edit: admin :) you cant just embed anything you want or this site would get taken over from nasty people. Currently you can embed youtube, img, and flash. One of these days when I get time I will put together some better help files. Any volunteers?

That's why we have Keith on board :) The stuff is too mind boggling for me.

If you spline it the head of the staple will be facing two walls .

Easier for the wood to expand towards the head of the staple as appose to against it ?

Well thats what I thought Nick so why would you want to start at one wall and not go both directions? perhaps I didn't understand what you meant. It's always safer to go both directions is it not?

Unless you are doing a gymnasium, there is rarely any need to split the direction of the install. The floor will tend to expand in the direction of the the install but this is normal and the usual expansion is acommodated along your ONE finishing wall.
