I figured this would happen because of the house layout, basically there are two sides "pulling" on the middle and during the winter it couldn't handle it so it separated. It happened in the door opening too (other side of the kitchen) but I just added a threshold that works well but in this location there is no clear way to add a threshold. Here's a picture and the red arrows points to where the floor is pulling apart. As you can see there's not a direct shot from one wall to another so I could try to angle it but I'm worried it will look odd. Any ideas? Some said to try and glue the weak areas where it's splitting but wouldn't that just make it split somewhere else?

Is this hardwood naildown? Maybe your floor is shrinking due to low relative humidity. Check the rh. A humidifier may be necessary.

I agree, any transition strip there would look horrible.

Floating. It's because of the humidity but it's hard to keep it at a certain level during the winter.

I bought a humidifier after installing hardwood flooring and have been able to maintain the flooring manufacturer's recommended humidity level throughout the winter. Humidifier is on the first floor and the humidistat that I put on the second floor is very happy. The humidifiers are rated by the area size that needs to be covered. House is a lot more comfortable....no static or dry throats.
