In my kitchen and living room i have the same hardwood flooring and am now going to put hardwood in the master bedroom - a few people said that I should install the same color and the K&L but I want something different - my question to you is would it be improper to go with something different or should I stick to the same color - We keep the door closed 99% of the time and it would butt up against the other flooring. i'm a little confused

It's just a matter of personal preference, same as what colors you paint your walls. If YOU want something different, do it, it's your house, doesn't matter what others would do.

In our experience, the majority of customers like all the wood on one level of a house to be the same. Personally, I like rooms to be distinct, I don't like everything running together. Everything the same has the effect of making the house look more spacious, and is probably easier to decorate, but to me, different flooring adds character and uniqueness to each room.
