Hi,

I'm putting in a white oak solid wood floor over thin slab and sleeper radiant heat. Should I compensate for seasonal relative humidity, i.e. if installing during a dry period, should I install the boards with a slight gap? Install super tight in the damp season?

Where would I get monthly RH levels for my area? I'm in Sonoma County, CA, inland from the coast by about 30 miles. Right now the weather is variable. On dry clear days the humidity drops to around 50% outside, but on rainy days the humidity can be close to 100% as we are in the clouds at times.

Thanks

Chris

Chris:

I never really thought about what you're asking, but I'm sure guys that live in the extreme areas where maintaining Rh may be more difficult probably have their own techniques.

Radiant heat? I always seem to scan a message first not paying attention to the important parts. Hopefully guys in the north can better assist.

Monthly Rh levels. I've been using wunderground.com as a weather source for years, and they do keep historical records...Last ten or so years for my locale.

I found Santa Rosa as you mentioned inland...It takes a bit getting used to finding the historical records, but scroll down to "History& Almanac" You can drill deeper into it by selecting the year and month figures. It doesn't show everything at once. Takes some time. Best figures show at the bottom once you get the right dates/months etc.

Not sure if I could live there. All I saw was fog, fog and more fog looking at January and February 2012
