With your help I have finished first room and now the debate about the proper shoe moulding. Painted or stained? In rooms with painted base boards having painted shoe moulding looks good. It seems to enhance the look of the base. Stained extends the floor some. Is there a rule or law that covers this issue? I would be interested in your opions.

Painted base = painted trim.

Stained base = trim stained to match the base.

Trim is trim and flooring is flooring, when I see the ΒΌ round matching the floor, it takes away from the floor. It looks out of place to me, and that is my opinion.

And I agree with that. While it's easier to just install the flooring manufacturer's pre-finished quarter round that matches the floor, up against painted wall base it looks crummy, IMO.
