hello all

I have an old red oak floor, I want to buff and coat for the holidays. It appears to have a shellac or varnish finish on it. Can I buff with a 100 grit and poly over it, and should I use Bona Traffic or do I need to sand it down to the wood?

It could have been waxed at one time so no other product will adhere. The only choices are to clean well and re-wax OR sand the floors down to the bare wood and refinish. Applying new finish over a very old wood floor usually does not work due to finish incompatibility. A full re-sand/refinish is recommended.
