Hi: Sorry for not checking archives first, but wanted to know your collective wisdom on the practical shelf life (as opposed to what it may say on the can) of Bostik's Best. My situation: gluing down 1/2" engineered (5" wide plank - random lengths) to concrete. Have 2 unopened cans of Bostik's Best that are about 2 years old. Opened one - there was a cured "skin" on the top but underneath, it seemed fine and quite trowel-able. Does shelf life affect its adhesion properties or just its workability? Thanks in advance ...

As long as the adhesive is trowelable you can b e sure that it will become cured and hold the wood flooring down. One trick that I have used with a can that has been opened and developed a "skin" on the surface is to turn the can upside down and start using it from the bottom. It can be a little of a challenge to get the bottom opened, but it will be fresh as new. I use a thick putty knife and a hammer to work around the edge, then fold it back.

Good idea Pete! Maybe there's an oversized can opener on the web for sale.

Pete and Ken:

Thanks to both of you for your replies. We went ahead and used the old stuff - seems to tack and trowel just fine and 48 hours later, we don't seem to have any adhesion problems or dead spots.

Thanks again.
