I just purchased a 1955 home with hardwood floors, I believe oak or red oak. They are in good shape, just need to be spruced up. What exactly is screening, and is it approriate in this case? Thanks! :?:

Hi Ken - Thank you. I had been to this site prior to my question at this site. I could not find where it tells me exactly what screening is. I th ink that it is to sand the floor with a sander, then apply a finish. How is this different from a total refinish? Different type sander? Different sandpaper? Thanks for your help! :D Happy 4th!

Screening: A method used before recoating a previously finished floor. Refinishing is sanding to bare wood with different equipment. Typical screen used is 120 or 150. Screen us attached? to the buffer pad with a soft pad, often maroon, white or green colored. (the color denotes softness)
There are now chemical cleaning/bonding systems that mostly eliminate the need for a buffer and screen.
