Hi there, my wife and I are just about to close on a new, to us, house. It has hardwoods throughout and I have the time, energy and willingness to learn so I’m planning on refinishing them prior to moving in. The floor has two areas that has a small brass strip inlay on the floor. I am struggling to find any information on how to deal with that strip when it comes to sanding. Am I able to sand directly over it? Will the brass also file down when I sand? Any advice is much appreciated.

The brass will heat up from abrasion so keep moving or it could scorch the wood next to it. It is usually held with epoxy. After sanding use a sharp scraper to level it to the oak surface since it won't sand down like the wood next to it.
