I bought a 1920 house and has beautiful hardwood floors which we are trying to sand down and refinish. The problem is, the 36 grit sanding discs on the EZ Varithane Orbital Sander, gets all clogged up in like 15 seconds. Anybody got any suggestions for me?? I used a stripping agent and got up probably 90% of the old finish hoping that will help. Go to 20 grit maybe??

Might try a 16 0r 20 grit but in my experience the orbital sander is not aggressive enough to remove the finish effectively. It works much better to use a belt sander and make your first pass at an angle to the floor to help prevent clogging. We have also apllied paint thinner to the floor and then sanded to help keep the sandpaper clear, this is a very messy proposition.

If I may comment on your idea of using paint thinner on the floor during the sanding process, I am thinking that it could lead to an explosive situation.

The orbital sanders only work good for floors that have been previously done with polyurethane, or floors that just need recoated. I would suggest renting a drum sander, edger, and buffer. A drum sander is much more aggressive then these orbital sanders.
