Hello,

I would like to sand the existing oak treads and refinish them. My plan is to take the existing finish off with random orbit sander and refinish with Minwax fast drying polyurethane. I have about 15 treads to finish.

What do you think? Where can I a good random orbit sander?

Thank you,

It will take a liitle time to get the old finish off with an orbital but it will work if you have a little paitence. SKIP the minwax fast dry poly its not worth putting it on ou steps once you put that much work into it. Any of the big box stores should be able to set you up with an orbital. Find your local hardwood flooring supply company and get yourself some good poly from like Bona kemi, dura seal, basic coatings ect. ITs going to be easier t0 work with and hold up longer.

Thanks, Kevin:

Is Fabulon Professional Polyurethane Super Gloss any good? If not, I am going with Dura-Seal High-Gloss Polyurethane Floor Finish

Both Fabulon and Dura-Seal are owned by Minwax and are considered quality professional products. I would recommend against high gloss on stairs though. The scratches will show more. Either satin or semi-gloss.
