Minwax instructions say do not sand after staining and before putting down clear coat. BUT when I put the second coat of stain down, I wiped it up as instructed but did not wipe it dry. A lot of what was left did not soak in like it did with the first coat and dried on top (i.e., some spots are very shiney).

I used 220 paper and a finish sander to go over the entire floor again taking off the excess stain. It is a bit lighter but if I decide I like it, do I need to do anything other than clean it before putting down clear coat?
