I have a stone wall which I have undercut so my wood flooring (Ipe) I am about to install can be installed under it and have room for expansion. I am getting ready to install, and it occurred to me it might be quite difficult to sand and seal the wood with the quite irregular stone wall there. The stone is also limestone and can dust off quite easily. So, would it be a good idea to "pre-sand/seal" the very first row of wood planks before installing? That way when I sand/seal the rest of the floor, I don't need to get the sander right next to the stone, but maybe just 1/2 way on the first row. I will be using Waterlox, so I assume I can feather in the rest of the floor's finish and spot touch up areas that need attention. Does this sound like a practical approach to this problem? Thanks!

If'n it were me, I would cover that wall with painters plastic for a measly 5 dollars. I might also tape off the bottom with blue tape. It would only take a few minutes.

For what its worth.

Thanks for your replies. I think I will cover the stone with painter's plastic just in case, but I will go ahead and sand & seal the first 1.5 rows before installing.
