 Post subject: Rug Damage?

I was using a swiffer to clean my floors and I removed a rug to sweep underneath. when i passed the swiffer over where the rug was it felt different, like it was not as smooth. am I getting finish damage or should I have some kind of pad between the floor and the rug?
