Hi, boy oh boy have I got a problem; I had to refinish the floors after a fire. I decided not to go with Waterlox as I had the last time (too smelly and long wait time) so I chose Behr's Tung Finnish b/c of it's eaze of application and fast dry time. The floors were sanded to bare wood and wiped clean with mineral spirits and then thoroughly tacked. I followed the manufacture's directions exactly - the problem is serious blotching which is seen easily depending on where one stands. The wood itself is knotty with huge variations in color and grain (wavy, straight, curled etc) but I love it's character. I phoned Behr but the employee hadn't a whit's idea what to do - he just read off what was on their website. I suspect I should have used a conditioner (a little late now) but in hindsight I didn't think rosewood was a "problem" wood for refinishing as maple or cherry.
I REALLY don't want to re-sand (if I do it has to wait till the summer maybe) as my furniture is coming out of storage. Can I put another oil-based finish that would sit on top as opposed to being absorbed? Or, Behr says a wax can be put over it - would this solve the issue (at least be good enough so one's eye isn't immediately drawn to the problem). What wax can you recommend?
Thx in advance.
