Hi -- My living room is not square. I am laying down engineered hardwood that is 3" wide. The room is about a 1/2 inch off. Is there anything that you can suggest when laying down the boards to handle this problem?

Off square by 1/2 inch? You lucky guy, lol. That is not significant given construction limitations today. However, make sure the floor is parallel in the important space, I would choose the entry to the room as being the most important area to be square. The walls will have furniture along them which will hide this 1/2 inch discrepancy.
