I'm new here and not sure if this is the right place to ask this. So I just bought a house and ripped up the carpets knowing there were hardwoods under there. The living room was in really good condition so I kept going; however, in the dining room and foyer there are roofing nails driven into the floors all over (I guess to stop squeaking before the carpets went down).

Below is a picture of the nails (not my actual floors but found this picture online and the nails are exactly the same). Below that is the picture of my actual floors where there are no nails.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get these roofing nails out with as little damage as possible? I would ideally like to not have to refinish the floors right away if at all possible.

Thanks in advance!

Probably not getting those out without causing more damage. I would find a nail punch to accommodate the nail head size and start setting them down then find a color putty to cover the holes. Not ideal but your best option i think.

I wold use a tack puller or thin flat bar and take your time. Then I would refinish the floors. Better to do it now then after you've moved in and have to move the furniture again.

Thanks guys, Im going to try the pulling them out option first. If that doesn't work Ill try sinking them and filling the whole.

Either way it looks like Im going to be refinishing them now before I move all of my furniture in. Ill update this thread with what I ended up doing and try to add some pictures.
