I'm building a house with Santos Mahogany in the living, dining, and
master bedroom (solid 3/4"). The trim (baseboard/casing/doors) is
going to be stain-grade oak. Would the overall look be better if the
trim was stained darker or lighter than the floors, or does it matter?
And thanks to all of the regular contributors -- this site is invaluable
for rank amateurs like myself.

Have you thought about White base and door jambs? If you try and match the color of Santos it may look like a mistake or a bad match. White base and chair rails would look really nice (formal) with the dark color of Santos.

Here are some good pictures of what oak and white will do for Santos.

Select Santos from species. Good Luck!!

By white, do you mean paint-grade? I didn't intend to match the color
of the Santos, I was looking for a nice contrast. I must be missing
something because you probably don't mean to paint the oak white?
Since the original post I considered just leaving the (red) oak un-
stained, just sanded/finished.

I'm not getting any pictures, just a link with "0 results"?

Could you translate this? I assume "select" as used here is an
adjective (like clear, #1, etc)? The "species" part has me baffled...

Anyway, thanks for the input.

1. I would prefer painted wood but you could also go with MDF and save a lot of money. Talk with your builder about options.

2. Did you click the link? If you did, you would have seen a "species" drop down box. At that point you were instructed to "Select" Santos Mahogany to see pictures from the Mirage web site.

You will see a picture among others of a white fireplace and white baseboards along with Santos flooring. The white features really bring out the luxury of Santos.

It's all opinions here and you asked for them :) Good Luck!!!
