Hi. I'm new to these forums. I've found the main site incredibly useful for my wood flooring project.

I am now at the stage where I am ready to fasten the wood floor planks to the subfloor. I have read a lot about resin-coated staples as the way to go for this. Does anyone know where to purchase these staples? I've gone to the main hardware stores as well as search the Internet. There are plenty of comments around, but I have not been able to find a brick & mortar or online store that sells them.

I plan on renting the flooring pneumatic stapler at Home Depot. I think the brand is Bostitch.

Thanks and looking forward to reading your responses.

The glue/resin staples I use are Bostitch. Their gold tone in color. The concept is that the glue/resin heats up with the friction as the staple is driven into the floor, to provide better holding power, and coats the staple. Lowes carries Bostitch fasteners, if not there...go to the local,( to the trade) flooring tool and supply house.

Thanks for the feedback. Would you happen to know what the model number of the staples are?

Sounds good to me. Na, actually the galvanized are silver with a bit of a rough texture, the glue/resin coated are a gold color and smooth. Hey, but I do limited naildown these days, maybe they changed it to "all in one", and I missed the boat. I'll try to find a picture

Here ya go... Although it says they are "standard hardwood staples", that I question, have used an aweful lot of galvanized. Have used the glue/resin in the past over plywood on concrete.

The BCS1512 are 1 1/2 inch, BCS1514 = 1 3/4 inch, and BCS1516 are 2 inch

Taking the 2" staples as examples, it appears the BCS1516 is resin-coated. I only think this because of the picture that come with them. There is no mention of resin or anything special in any site I've found. We called Bostitch and explained that we were looking for resin-coated staples and they had no idea what we were talking about.

Thanks for everyone that has posted a response. Much appreciated.

Well now you made me have to go and look. The BCS1516's I have are NOT resin coated. Whats up with that??!! Neither are any of my Bostitch staples for the other two smaller ones I have.

The only staples I have that are resin coated are the ones for my Hitachi 7/16 crown stapler I use for underlayment.

BTW when I ordered some of those staples from Amazon they came in all busted up like the other people who commented on that link. Thats why I buy them from the box stores.

Stephen - Any idea what the model number is on those 7/16 staples is? At this point, I'm just trying to make sure this whole resin-coated business is not a hoax. It really does beg the question if they offer that much of an advantage.

I'm continuing to call around and post question in the hope that I can get to the bottom of this.

The item number on my box says 97612, the SKU is BCS1516-2 and they are half inch (1/2) crown. The difference between the other staples (7/16) which is not what you want to use is only 1mm in width. You can only use 1/2 inch crown with the Bostitch stapler.

Funny thing though, the 7/16 say they are galvanized and are resin coated. The Bostitch BCS1516's say they are zinc plated but I cannot tell the difference at all between the two in the feel or appearance cept for the resin of course.

I'm going to end up going with those 1516. They claim a coating that helps them stick. Not really sure what they mean by that. Thanks again.

Only a guess, but I would think a glue/resin coat. Maybe they dropped the gold tone staples, can't find um anywhere, just pictures. Sometimes it's a challenge calling a company and trying to talk to someone knowledgable.
