I've just purchased a property that has solid wood floors fitted in the dining / kitchen area. The total area is 29m x 22m and I'm interested in having underfloor heating fitted throughout as the two radiators are totally inefficient in this space. Might it be possible to take up the wood floor so that the panels are not damaged (or at least the majority) in order for them to be reused when installation of underfloor heating has been completed?
I do not know what has been used to lay the floor in the first place. What do I need to look for?

You will have to destroy at least one row to be able to get to the rest of the wood. It's best to take the flooring up from the tongue side so you should find the tongue side and then take up from the end of the room where the tongues are against the wall.

One way to find the tongues is to take up trim or any heating or cooling vents that are in the floor. If you can find the tongue side of the floor, then you destroy the last row .The second to the last row can then be accessed.

You can get the boards out with a simple medium length or larger pry bar.YOu could also use a sawzall with a metal blade to cut the nails or staples before you pull the boards out .

If you don't use a sawzall, you will need to pull the fasteners after yo upull up the boards.
