A previous homeowner glued carpet onto beautiful hardwood floor in my dining room. I scraped off the carpet as best as I could. Puff puff. Now there are patches of carpet glue on the hardwood floor.
1. How can I remove the rest of the blue? sand it, or dissolve it
2. What is the best way to finish the hardwood once it is sanded?

Thank you.

I'd let a pro handle it from this point. They will get the old adhesive off.

If you use a solvent, what is the residue going to do when you apply finish, it is designed to remove?? Rut roe!

It is amazing how there are so many opinions on this subject. "sand it." "You will never sand the glue off." "Don't use solvent. It will really gum up."
Add the complication that my wife has asthma and I can't use smelly chemicals.

Lo and behold, there is a solution that I found that will loosen up the glue. Not stinky. Designed to remove glue, and not paint (methylene chloride will remove everything.) I will keep you posted on the progress. Thanks.
