installed Morningstar bamboo 5/8" qing cobra stain flooring-contractor did poor cleanup- tried Roberts urethane R5505 towelettes and mineral spirits with no luck. tried Mr. Clean extra-strength magic eraser and did take adhesive off but left floor with a larger dull spot as if the finish was gone. is there a procedure to remove the glue and not the finish OR a procedure to use the Mr.
clean and restore the sheen or finish. will the adhesive ever just wear away? thanks for your help.

I would try Bostik Urethane Adhesive Remover. Hate to say but...I've seen cured urethane adhesive etch the finish on Morning Star, ( as well as other products). It leaves a dull spot, or clouded haze.

I've been meaning to try a white buffing pad on my ROS with a practice board by first using some mineral spirits to soften the finish a bit. Has anyone else tried that? You can buy white pads for a ROS at a box store pretty cheap.

Doesn't soften the finish. But you do get a nice shiney spot  :(

I meant as far as fixing an etched spot, isn't that better than an etched or dull cloudy spot from the magic eraser Howard?

Does not sound very encouraging. Roberts makes an adhesive remover, #1912, with xylene, mineral spirits, naphtha, and ethylbenzene-is that too strong? will it damage the wood? has anyone tried that product before? Did anyone have an procedure to return the finish to normal if i do use the mr clean magic eraser?

Magic Eraser shouldn't hurt the finish. But try it on a scrap first.

howard, I did try it on the floor already, it took the adhesive off and left a dull smudge larger than the original glue spot. is it the chemicals in the magic eraser that takes the adhesive off or does the dry magic eraser act like a real fine sand paper? also, what would happen if i did wet the magic eraser first? thanks, brian

Your suppose to wet those erasers first. That's why I mentioned to try it on a scrap.

Why are you dealing with this poor cleanup job, and not "the contractor"?

the isocyinates in the urethane glue etch the finish, you can rub all you want probably not going to help.

I tried a magic eraser for the heck of it on urethane. There was no glue spot. I just wanted to see what the eraser would do and it did dull the finish where I rubbed it. So while the adhesive may etch the finish, it seems that the magic eraser also dulls finish.

Depends on the product / finish. I guess that's why it's a good idea to test anything first before proceeding on the floor
