I'd like to get rid of my filthy carpets and refinish my wood floors. Prior to moving in, and prior to kids (I didn't realize what filthy rags the carpet would become), I painted ceiling with several coats of white paint, which rained down onto floor and dried.

It is better to use sandpaper or a chemical to get rid of 800 square feet of paint in four rooms?
