I'm new to the site and was looking for some input on my pine floor. It's stained and sealed with Polyurethane water based. The finish is about 5years old, cat scratches, memories and some peeking/ chipping. I would like to maintain the character and patina...so no sanding. Can I do a strip or better with light sanding for ahesion. I would like to re seal with Varathane Diamond oil based. I used this in my basement floor and it looks great and is holding up. So.....can I paint over water based with oil based without sanding?

Thanx,
Rick

Yes. Provided you properly abrade the existing finish first. If its not too large an area 150 grit on a pole sander will do the job.
