My son in law bought a house with a Lauzon prefinished titanium hardwood floor. Previous renters had pets which have significantly scratched the hardwood floor. This hardwood floor is a microbevel product. Is it possible to refinish this floor with a waterborne product such as mega bona ? Is pre screening required ?

It is definitely possible to sand the floor and refinish it. If you are hoping to just screen buff and recoat you will want to check with the manufacturer. Most prefinished floors can be done by screening with a 150 grit sanding screen, then apply a coating of sanding sealer, then apply a coat of water based finish. Also, I would reccomend using a square buffer, over an orbital buffer. It will abrade the finish better and leaves out the possibility of swirl marks. Also, the company Tykote has a system that works to recoat basically any floor.

Bona makes an excellent product for this called Bona Prep. I've seen it used to prep a factory finished wood floor with Aluminum Oxide fortified finish (like Lauzon's finish) and then apply a new coat(s) of quality waterborne finish like Bona Traffic (pretty much the best finish money can buy).

I would look into that if I were you.
