I am trying to decide on which hardwood flooring I should put down in my house. It seems that hand scraped is popular and it might be nice to hide those flaws and scratches, but my question is how difficult is it to refinish? I am on a slab so I am going to stick to an engineered floor so I am concerned that refinishing would not only remove most if not all the hand scraping (probably a given) but also if it can cause problems because you have to get to bare wood and doing so could require some care as not to penetrate the veneer.

I would appreciate some insight from anyone that may have experience with this.

The deal about refinishing is that before you wear out the finish coat you should get a screen and recoat. There's a new sander out there that gets into the grooves and will not take off all the handscraping.

Thanks! Sorry for my ignorance. When you say screen, do you mean that you can sand and refinish with out going down to bare wood?

Yes, but with this machines design I guess the proper term would be "abrade".
