I have the opportunity to buy wood from a maple gym floor. The wood would be cheap- around $1/sq ft compared to $3-7/sq ft. Has anyone else dealt with installing a reclaimed maple floor? I'm worried it will be more of a hassle to install, and end up costing more in the end. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Well, if the tongues and grooves are broken during dismantling ( very possible ), it will make the wood worthless. Maple is brittle and those T&G's crack and break easily. Plus, if the wood still has many of the fasteners in it, you'll spend loads of time removing those. That said, if you have more time than money, it MAY be worth it to you. I find "reclaimed" wood a pain to install unless someone has gone through it and picked out all the damaged boards and removed the fasteners. It will still need to be sanded and finished after installation.
