We are about to install Kurupay (Pepperwood) that scores 3800 on the Janka scale over stapled up radiant on 3/4 inch sublfloor. Seller/installer feels that the wood is too dense for it to be effected by 85 degree floor heat. He did wonder if the wood is so dense that the heat would not tranfer through the wood leaving the floor cold. In addition to the 3/4 inch subfloor we will probably add another 1/4 inch of plywood to increase surface level to level of slate with hardibacker underlayment. My thought is that the Pepperwood is dense like slate and therefore would make a good heat transfer. Help! We are about to pull the trigger.

I would seriously contact the mill that manufactured the wood, to make positively sure they recommend installing their SOLID wood over a radient heated floor.

You may be surprised at what you hear, directly from the horses mouth, differs from the guy that sold this wood to you for this application.
