Ok so I am attempting to put in lock together floating hardwood floors (Bruce Naturally Simple) this weekend into my dining room and I have 3 questions.
#1. I have a concrete slab and when I was purchasing the underlayment at Lowes they said I should glue the underlayment down... well after finishing gluing down the underlayment for the dining room, I went and looked online and I can't find any evidence to back this up! Do I actually have to glue down the underlayment or can I just tape it down? (I am using DuoFoam with Self Seal if it matters.
#2. Ok... so for the second question: It was mentioned to me by my father-in-law that I should measure the wall and then snap a chalk line and use that as guide on where to put my first board... but that doesn't sound right to me. I figured because it is a floating floor, do I really need to line it up?
#3. Last question: Does anyone know if there is a limit on how far I can lay the floating floors before I need to put some piece of "stable" wood in? Someone mentioned that with their Pergo floors they couldn't go beyond 30 or 40 feet of flooring without having to put in a piece that way nailed down. And I guess if this is true, do I have to then glue down that "stable" piece? (Because I am on concrete).
Thanks in advanced for the help.

#1 What do the directions say? Follow them precisely and don't worry about what the $6.00 hour Lowes employees tell you.

#2 floating floors require you to use spacers. Again, read the directions....Yes, use a chalk line (some installers use the lines of the subfloor) to measure how straight you are. The wall could be off a little bit and pose problems.

#3 How big is your dining room? 30 to 40 feet?!?! WOW!! Someone else can answer this question. Or you could call the manufacturer and ask them.

Good Luck!!

Thanks for your response KRV!
#1. The directions just mention not overlapping the edges and being sure to seal the pieces of underlayment together... and the directions from Bruce say nothing about it either. I guess I was just wondering if anyone else had heard of gluing down the underlayment for a floating floor,
#2. Once again the directions for the floating floors say nothing about using a chalk line... just that spaces should be places around the boards to keep them in place :).
#3. Actually my dining room is not 30 to 40 feet, but I am going to extend the wood into other rooms and I was hoping to just be able to keep added on to the ends....
Thanks again

Don't glue the underlayment down!! What a waste of time and money!! Lowe's employee= idiot!

It sounds like your in way over your head. All your questions can be answered in the installation instructions for your floating floor. After all, it is marketed to the DIY'er as an easy install.
