I've found out that a number of boards aren't exactly 5" wide so after getting a 1/3 of the way ton I'm being more selective with my boards. A few also have a slight to moderate twist or bow, either across the face or vertically. After searching here the triangle wedge has been working well to get those suckers flush.
Now onto my next issue. In the middle of the master bedroom (now 2/3 done) I've noticed a squeaky board along the last 6" of the plank (36" long). I'm not sure if this is a result of a split tongue from the previous row or just a sucky job nailing. At this point can I drill and face nail into the plank to help with this or should I just learn to live with it. I don't want to go through all the effort and cosmetic mess-up if it won't correct the issue. It's an area that will be partially under a king sized bed so I'm not that worried about constant traffic.
Speaking of split tongues, I think I've done a good job minimizing this by adjusting the air down some but I still get a plank that occasionally ends up with a small crack or split. Anything to worry about? Can I blind nail on either side or tighten things up some on those boards to help?
Thank you to everyone. I'll be sure to post pics when I'm done so everyone can have a good chuckle. God I'm no pro, that's for sure
