Yeah. . . the filler came out funky. . . I picked up maple filler at MacBeath hardwood here in Berkeley. .. it was too dark, so I used Birch filler that looked white when it was dry. . . too white. . . but it was on, so I decided to leave it.
But when I put the oil on, it turned dark. So before finish, I saw a bunch of white dots, now I see a bunch of dark dots
I mixed some Walnut filler with red and blue line chalk to try to simulate purpleheart. That turned out much lighter than I would have liked prior to finishing. . . you could see all the nails. . .. but now, you don't really notice them on the accent strips.
I'm not terribly opposed the nail hole look, but it wasn't what I planned. That's why I'm the amateur and you're the pro
You have to know what your brew is going to do in the end. I'm just trying stuff as I go and am willing to live with the whatever result it produces.
