Hi, I am about to install 3/4" pre-finished oak hardwood in a 35" x 60" closet area on the second floor. The closet is elevated from the rest of the room. You have to step up six inches to get into it; so it is it's own floor which is not connected to the floor in the rest of the room (where I have just finished installing a new floor).

I am wondering if I could get away with not leaving an expansion space just in the entranceway of the closet. It would be easier for me and look better if I could just push the first floorboard edge tight up against the wood trim that frames the opening of the space. The floorboard and frame/trim are the same height and would meet perfectly and this would also allow the floorboard to slip under the jambs far enough to close off the gap that would be present in front of the (shallow/thin) jamb if I left an expansion space and installed moulding across the threshold.

Might it be okay to exclude an expansion space on the one edge?

Hope I'm making sense. If not, I can try to post a picture which should explain it better.
Thanks for any opinions on this. This is my first hardwood installation.

In that small of an area, you can forgo an expansion space if if looks better without one. Unless that area literally floods, you should not have any problems, assuming you nail it down correctly.
