So this question is about my NEW floors which I hope to have installed soon, vs. the other questions I've been asking about my existing floor in need of some repairs. I have gotten four estimates for the new floor, three of which I am not even considering because they would require me to rip out 1,000 square feet of existing floor which is really in pretty good shape............I found one guy that will work with me to very closely match the new with what exists already. My question...............he is quoting me a price (materials only) of $5.50 per square foot for this particular engineered wood. I have been able to find the materials only through another source at $4.50 per square foot. I would really like to use this guy for multiple reasons, and realize that every business is in business to make a profit, so I'm not expecting him to sell the material 'at cost', but I also want to make sure that what he is quoting me is not an unreasonable mark-up. Also, is $2.50 per square foot reasonable for installing?? Thanks for the input :)

Cant say what prices are like there but it sound very fair to me, even if he is a little higher you already sound like you trust him to do the job.

Two fitty is cheap, even for a nail down.

Thanks :) I am feeling good about this so far based on the responses. I do trust him, AND, he has went out of his way to help me find this 'match' which to me indicates that customers are his priority, and not just a quick sale (and he didn't try to sell me something that I didn't need..........i.e., 'we're going to have to tear out the rest of the floor and just re-do it ALL).

Two fifty is cheap. Maybe he's trying to make up a little difference on the material. Like Mickey says...If your feel comfortable with him, go for it. There's more to consider.

Woods also going up, so one source may show a good price up front but hit you for the freight.
