I finished about 575 sf of red oak in 2 1/4 width. I didnt shoot nails every 8 inches ... I thought that was overkill. I put in 1900 2 inch
staples and 850 1 1/2 inch. The latter were much better quality. That would be about 2750 total. From a pro,s point of view, does that sound
about right..?? just curious....

Standard on 3/4 is every 8", 4" from the ends.

If my math is correct it should be a minimum of 4600 staples.

thats gotta be from the people who make and sell staples. The guy at LL said I would need about half of a box of 5000 and that was for 620 sf.
I re measured and my project was only about 570 m/l. And 30 sf is screwed in next to walls. thats overkill.

I guess everyone has their own way of calculating. My math brings a figure of 3400 fasteners for that amount of footage in a 2 1/4 inch width.
On what did you base your thought about an 8 inch spread on the fasteners being overkill?
Its really a moot point now anyway, since the floor is installed. Are you a flooring mechanic or DIY guy?

I see more and more of this on message boards....seems everyone wants to skimp on fasteners. I never can understand it. Go out and walk on one of those "snap-crackle-pop" floors one time, and you'll never skimp again.

I agree it is a little late to worry now. Never sold a staple in my life, good luck.

According to that chart your close to 1,000 fasteners shy, on a 10"-12" nailing schedule  And I was always under the assumption that 8" was the nailing schedule ,that's approx. 1800 shy on 575' Lets hope for good gravity

Good thing you saved that $13 on the extra cleats. That is why the guy is working at LL.

You'll be fine.

Plank gets the 8" schedule between fasteners.
Strip is a little more forgiving if you don't get it exactly a foot apart.
