I am refinishing 1400 sq ft of 2 1/4" wide, 3/4" thick red oak flooring, laid in the 1950s. When I pulled up the carpet in one of the bedrooms, there was a water-damaged section where the boards had shrunk quite a bit, producing large gaps, so I got out my circular saw, split them down the middle lengthwise and removed 6 or 7 of the boards - now I need to get some unfinished red oak strips to replace them with. I saw some at Home Depot and was wondering if a bundle of red oak from HD is any worse than what I'd find at a lumberyard. The HD stuff seems to match what I had pretty closely in color. Any watchouts regarding HD lumber?

I don't know about their oak flooring in specific, but generally speaking Home Depot has "pretty good quality" at "pretty good prioces". I live very close to a HD, so I use them a lot.

That being said, I am usually able to find superior quality and lower prices if I look around a bit. Sometimes you just get tired of looking.

yea if you just need a few boards its not going to make a hill of beans. If you were talking the whole floor I would look elsewhere but in this case I wouldn't have a problem using what was readily available.
