Hopefully someone can shed some light for us. We had installed preverco 3/4 maple hardwood floors 7 years ago and have had fantastic success with them..THEN came a flood last year and the insurance company really wanted us to deal with a local supplier that only carried muskoka. I was told that muskoka hardwood flooring is the same quality. They both priced out at 7.50 sq so we thought that the quality should be the same...Now we are having all kinds of problems were the floors are cupping and planks cracking. Also I have 2 kids and if they drop as little as a half and once of water the floor finish comes up. We never had these problems before. I just found out that preverco puts a finish on the bottom of there planks so that moisture levels are controlled better. I know my kids had dropped water before and we never had and issue before but now my kids are not allowed to walk around with a childs sippy cup !!!
Can anyone give me more info about these 2 companies and the quality there hardwood floors. I was very persistent with the insurance company when they told me that muskoka will be the same quality but from what I see, they are no were near the same quality. !!
I cannot figure out how to post my images..thanks Marc

Get your battle face on, thats going to be a tough battle to win. Keep pestering the insurance company. I've had to go into mediation with one before. Took a long time but I won. You should look for a qualified inspector in your area do a detailed inspection even if it means a little distructive testing. Send some samples to a lab to check the quality of the old floor vs the new floor. Find an inspector who has a long installation background, not just a salesman or carpet cleaner/inspector.

I'm not familiar with Preverco flooring but if they seal the under side of the wood, then I'd say it's a very good product. As for your situation, I wonder if the substrate was allowed to dry and return to normal moisture content .Perhaps your installer never properly checked the substrate before installing the new flooring ?

Its not standard practice to finish the back side of flooring so that would lead me to first think that the subfloor or crawlspace was not dry when the new went down. Did you notice right away during the first few weeks or did it lay down for a while and now just starting to cup? As far as the finish goes it should still be under warranty, have you notified the dealer who sold you the floor?

The old hardwood (preverco ) was finished on the bottom. It is the new hardwood (muskoka) that I am having issues with. They were down for about 2 1/2 months before everthing started to happen. Although the first or two months we were still moving things back so I might have not noticed things changing. The day of the flood the insurance company showed up with the contractor (paul davis systems) and they emmediately started to dry the house. The next day they closed the house up tight and baked the house at 120 degrees for 4 days and brought the humidity down to 6 percent. (had outside furnace pumping hot dry air) After that they started tearing the walls, and flooring up.
The house was empty for 3 months so it should have climatized by then. They brought the hardwood in and left it in the boxes unopenned for about 3 weeks. (month 4 out of the house). My other issue is why does the floor lift with such little water .We have about 4 spots around the dining room table that the finish is bubbled. If the kids drops as little as a 1/4 once, the floors finish bubbles. We never ever had any spots like this from the preverco hardwood floors and the kids were much younger then.

the finish shouldnt be bubbling up from a drop of water, It sounds like your on the road to an inspection way too many variables to give you a good answer.

These water damage reclamation companys think they can dry a wood subfloor in a couple months...ha ha! sure. Ask them if they did any moisture testing of the subfloor and floor joists. Those guys are all about time not numbers.

Actually I was here when they were walking around and puncturing all the walls and floors to check humidity with a probe, but they did not check again months latter to see if the floors had regained the proper humidity nor the new hardwood floors.
