Did not know where to turn so hopefully someone can help me out. If I am out of line for posting this hear I apologize.

We ordered approximately 550 sq. ft of Mohawk laminate flooring from Lowes ( 1st mistake). The reason we ordered from there was we have a Lowes CC and were offered 18 SAC. paying out of pocket at this time was not an option. When we ordered the laminate they told us the subfloor moisture reading had to be under 14% , which we were the day of our first install date, which I took a day off work for. When they arrived the installers told me our levels were at 14% but Mohawk recommends it to be at 10%. They would only install if I signed a waiver voiding my warranty. I was upset the sales person did not know what she was talking about and rescheduled my install two weeks later for today. They apologized and said it was a training issue. I didn't want any compensation for their mistake ( they didn't offer either) but had to wait until today to reschedule. It was my first available Saturday.

Moisture level now down to 10% and installers started the install. They get about two hours into the install and they realized the store ordered the wrong underlayment for Mohawk products. The store instructed them to stop immediately because Mohawk would not honor warranty. Here I am now with no floor for two weeks, downstairs bathroom is gutted, and house is torn apart. Store called and said they would expedite order (no charge was their offer) and reschedule again. I have to take another day off work that I can not afford. The lady was very apologetic but I feel this is not good enough. I am not the person who ask for something for nothing but feel very taken aback by all of this and feel there should be some sort of compensation for their mistakes. How should I go about this? I told the lady how disappointed I was and she is going to talk to her manager and get back to me Monday. What should I expect? Any help would be appreciated.

I can understand your frustration, but at least they're trying to do things the right way. Many of the lower rung installers wouldn't blink an eye and just installed the floor and left for good. Then the real problems kick in and..."they won't call me back." You'll find things like this are more common with big box stores....wrong underlayment ordered etc.

I've been in situations like this before with other contractors/stores and it drives me nuts. I wonder how the moisture level got to 10% Temporary fix? Just something to think about, but I'm sure you don't want any new worries.

Hmmm, says 12% here; http://www.mohawkflooring.com/pdf/MHK%2 ... 262013.pdf

Wonder what meter they were using and if they used the correction chart, settings? There's some really crummy meters out there.

Did they take multiple readings? Plywood at a certain relative humidity is always lower than hardwood, and OSB is actually lower than plywood by a couple points. What type subfloor do you have?

I honestly got the feeling the first time they came out to install they didn't want to be there and were looking for any reason to not do the job. They did everything they could to talk me out of them installing the floor that day and when they said I would have to sign a waiver voiding my warranty I agreed to reschedule.

We have a plywood subfloor. They suggested I run a dehumidifier in my basement and lower my humidifier on my furnace. We had a few days of really hot muggy weather and they felt that might have something to do with the high reading. I took them for their word because they were the professionals. The date of the 2nd install( yesterday) they never really mention the moisture reading so I assume we were all set at 10%

there is nothing to expect but the correct installation, products and warranty..that is what you paid for. you are not entitled to anything else.

they came on Saturday for you..do you work Saturdays?

I am not in defense of Big Box by any means. but bottom line is things happen and problems occur.

halting to make sure it is done correctly is not punishable by law, morals or inconvenience

Aside from what is mentioned, why don't you trust them to be in your home alone ? My customers regularly leave me the keys to their home based on my reputation.

If you don't trust these people, then you probably should not have hired them.

If you expect any regarding this matter you will have to go up the food chain until you get high enough and can speak to someone who has the authority to listen to your complaint and address it.
I have worked for 3 national companies and store level will not give you the right time of day. Because they are not allowed to or they don't want higher ups to know what happened. If you don't believe me Lumber Liquidators will not even allow their store managers to go and look at their problems.
