purpose :To ensure last board of the installation (or long board at an obstruction) is not too narrow.

General Rule: Kährs requires that no board have a width less than 3” or .38” of a full board width.

Notes on Equation: This rule applies to boards with an original thickness of 5/8” x 3-strip wide. This equation should
be used when a board 4’ or more in length meets an obstruction.

Hey guys I am having a problem with this part "purpose :To ensure last board of the installation (or long board at an obstruction) is not too narrow."

I have several obstructions in all of my rooms (floor vents, closets ect...)

heres is a picture of a room I will be flooring, the lengh of the plank will be running east/west in the firstpicture.
now after calculating I find that some of the boards would have to be less then 3 " wide.
maybe they mean an entire board lengh when they say it has to be at least 3 inches wide and a " cut around this closet and floor vent is ok since half of full board will be remaining?

Am I right in thinking that the two enboards should be kept 3 inches wide and all the obstructions like the vents and closets could have cut outs in the board where part of the board is not measuring 3 inches wide?

zim

I know im not exsplaing this well , but hopefully someone sees what i cant figure out

just got this response from kahrs tech support
:

Sorry if this is getting confusing.

On the Linnea (regardless of whether it is a 1 strip or 2 strip) – because of the HDF backing you do not need to worry about the 3” wide rule.
