One of the distributors of product I'm looking to install indicates that if we use Advantek as our subfloor we will have to glue our wood floor down. He contends that nails simply bend off the Advantek and nailing isn't possible. My builder says this guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Has anyone else experienced any problem installing a wood floor over Advantek via nail/staple?

Thanks,

Dakota

Could it be, the distributor also wants to make a glue sale also?

@ $25 - $35 per gallon at a spread rate of 45-50 sq.ft. per gallon, it is a nice add on to the wood sale.

I hadn't even thought of that one! He did include over $350 in glue in the estimate.

Thanks for the input, my desire to deal with this store is lessening by the minute.

Since your builder was able to nail thru it I would listen to him  I have stapled enough flooring over it to know that it is a good product. No need to glue unless you want to.

Thank you Jerry, glad to know it worked for you. It didn't sound right to me and made me wonder about this distributor's installers.

Thanks for the input!

Lets get terms used straight...

What your talking about is called the retail store, not a distributor. The retail store gets its products from distributors, that carry manufacturers products.

Retailers salesmen / women, are known for their lack of knowledge about actual installation.

Your better off buying over the internet and finding your own professional installer from the NWFA.

Actually, this was a distributor and I was speaking with an installer, hence my concern. I'd love to buy over the internet and hire a NWFA installer. Unfortunately, there appears to be only one in my area and he hasn't returned any calls.

What's the next best thing if I do buy over the internet? Is there another association I could work through?

Thanks,

Dakota

Don't believe you can't get a decent installer without NWFA membership. All it takes is $400 to get on their list. Better chances if they are NWFA 'certified', as they at least have an education, but that is still no guarantee of ethics.
You really need to get local references. Ask around, ask on local internet boards, look for long established business and start asking questions from there, such as job references.
I know at least one excellant installer who barely has a phone book listing, he just doesn't need the exposure because of word-of-mouth and considers the NWFA a waste of money for the small installer.

Thanks for the tips, guys. I live in a small town in SE Kansas and even the phone book doesn't list anyone as an installer. Most of them seem to be affiliated with local retail stores and I'm not sure I'd get names out of those folks if I don't buy floor through them.

I'm continuing the search, however!

Thanks again for all the input, I appreciate it.
