I need help. We have 20 year old white oak which had a very orangy finish that we wanted to lighten up. After a full sanding job, the guy used Bona sealer and has applied one coat of Mega satin. We checked the job and saw spots of orange all over the job, from an inch or two to bigger areas, plus the finish is quite rough. I assume the smoothness will be dealt with by a buff between coats-is this correct? I am more concerned about the orange spots. Does this mean the job has to be resanded to get them out?

I usually recommend homeowners discuss their concerns with the contractor they hired. I cannot see the floors and it's kinda hard to judge what's going on without seeing them. Waterbased finishes, which Mega is, will sometimes leave the floors rough and fuzzy after the first coat. Properly buffing with the right abrasives knocks down the roughness and will produce a smooth finish. Remember, it ain't done till it's DONE. Talk with your contractor about those orange spots. Sounds odd to me.

Is there anyway to get a little more of a yellowish color to the floor instead of the bland beige? Will the Mega yellow up over the three coats planned?

Just a little bit. Not much.

He agreed that he would resand the whole floor to get the stain off. Now he will use the Bona seal and traffic on the recs I've read here. Sound right?

That will make for a very natural and light looking floor. It would be wise to see a finish sample BEFORE he does the floors, just to make sure it is what you want.
