Im just getting into the buisness of making hardwood floors and before i get to ahead of myself i need some help on how to price the floors im trying to sell. For example if i can buy red oak in the rough for $1.90 a b/f what would be a good price to sell it for by the sq/ft and still be able to make money. I am going to offer flooring prefinished and unfinished so im sure prefinished will cost more but im really not to sure on how to calculate what i need to so i can get a good price without making myself look really bad. i will be very thankful for any help i can get on this matter.

I was by my local big box chain store, and they had pre finished solid oak on sale for under $3 a square.

Unless you plan to make a lot of flooring, it might be a tough proposition to make money at those prices.

The flooring business is very competiive, and you've got to move 10's of thousands of board feet for it to make sense.

The big chain stores have lots of buying power and it's hard to compete as a small guy.

Thanks for the info, I think i will stick to doing custom and standard trim and just run flooring if someone really needs me to.

Call a established competitor, and have them come to your home and give you a quote. Act like an internet educated homeowner wanting wood.

This will give you an idea what your going to be ballpark with, or if you can even do it for those prices.
