I would like to install hardwood floors but am concerned about the damage my pets may cause. I have two small dogs who, unfortunately, tinkle on the floors. It is not always possible to catch them in the act and the accident may set for several hours or overnight before it is discovered. This has led to the ruin of our carpet which I would like to replace with hardwood floors.

My question: is there a way to finish hardwood floors that will minmize or elimiinate the damage that can be caused by liquids left on a hardwood floor? Perhaps a thick top coat of polyurathane?

Thanks!
Mike

Three options.

Live with the damage, when it happens

Hardwood would be mis-specified for you, Sheet vinyl would be the floor for you.

Dog get booted outside, no exceptions.

Actually I have thought of a forth option...dual doggie colostomies  J/K...my wife didn't like that suggestion...hmm if there aint there oughta be a way...y'ad make millions.

GREAT suggestion! I'll look into the sheet vinyl. I hadn't really thought about it until you mentioned it..I guess 'cause I always think of the old yellow paisely printed sheet vinyl that peeled up on the ends in our house growing up in the 60's and 70's...buttugly...I know they make some pretty cool stuff now, probably my best option. Thanks again!
