 Post subject: Prefinished Hardwood over carpet?

I am a DIY first time hardwood floor novice with a project:
The room is over a finished 3 car garage and is about 900 square feet.
The floor consist of 24" OC space joist with 3/4 T&G plywood that is glued and nailed. Currently there is a 1/8" thick tightly woven commercial carpeting that is glued to the plywood.

1. Can I install the 3/4" by 3 916" T&G prefinished hardwood over this carpet?
2. Is it better to room it first?

He must mean REMOVE it, not room it. If you are installing a 3/4" solid wood floor, the carpet has to go. THere are some floors that can be floated over a low pile, heavy nap carpet but 3/4" solid isn't one of them.
