I have handscraped and pre finished my 4 inch wide 3/4 inch solid oak floor. My question is, would it be a good idea to put 1 more coat of finish on it after it is installed to get some poyurethane down into the beveled areas? It seem like this would be an area where a water spill could seep through. Thanks for the help.

Why did you pay the big bucks for the finish that is on the floor, if your going to top coat it and void any warranties on the factory finish.

Sorry about the confusion, the floor was handscraped and finished myself. I was just wondering if it was a good idea to put one more coat on after installation?
Thanks

If you think it looks like it needs it, go ahead. But don't think by doing so you are making it more water proof. Wood floors never are. And the floor will expand and contract with seasonal changes so at some point, the grooves will open up a little anyway. The only reason for adding another coat would be for additional protection and to improve the appearence.
