Hello,
My floors were water damaged and the floors were repaired by my contractor. Unfortunately, I found out that they repaired the damaged pieces with prefinished hardwood floors. Now I have Bruce prefinished cherry hardwood floors mixed with regular hardwood floors with a hi-gloss finish.

The prefinished flooring looks lighter than my hi-gloss flooring. Is there anyway that I can re-sand my hi-gloss floors and somehow re-stain them to match the prefinished floors? What type of polish should I use?

Sounds like they were trying to avoid sanding the whole floor. IMO thats the only way the floor will look right. Hopefully the pre-finished wood they used for patching will blend in, once the whole floor is sanded. Now this is only assuming, but it kinda sounds like they tried to match the prefinished color with the existing floor as close as possible, but maybe didnt pay attention to specie or grade, which will show when sanded.

OK, are they oak stained cherry or real american cherry or real braz. cherry. If one of the latter two then the wood itself will darken considerably after its exposed to natural light.

Sounds to me like they tried matching an on site sanded floor with a pre-finished plank  Am I wrong ? :?

Hello All,
Thanks for all the replies. They did try to match my original flooring with prefinished wood. They said that they did not want to sand my floors again because it was previously sanded already and sanding my floors too much might not be a great idea. The damaged area was concentrated to one area, approximately 5'x10'. I was told that the prefinished wood that was used is Bruce natural stained Cherry Hardwood Flooring. I was also told that in time, the prefinished flooring should darken and match my original flooring. I guess I'll have to keep my fingers crossed. Most of the new flooring is covered by furniture and a rug. Should I expose the area to natural light? Or should it darken over time regardless?

Thanks again

You need to leave the new flooring exposed as much as possible to the same conditions as the remainder of the floor...it won't catch up to the old if you have it covered...if it is american cherry, you should see the most drastic color change in the first 6-12 months.
