Most of the pre finished hardwood I have been working with have 4 side micro bevel. What do you do when have a situation where the flooring is laid lenghtwise and on one end is a stair nose and the other end meets tile? Ideally I would want factory edges at both these transitions but in this situation you cannot avoid laying a cut end at either the tile or stair nose. Will the lack of bevel be really noticeable and stand out like a sore thumb? Likewise in a situation where I would want to install a simple border in a room. Inevitable there will be cut ends without bevel butting up against the border.
Any thoughts?

If the nosing is micro beveled as well, I'd want the factory bevel on the flooring to meet it. So I'd say put the full board against the nose. Typically, I do not butt flooring tight to tile but leave a grout joint and fill that with colored sanded caulk. When bordering with factory flooring, simply start with the field in the middle of the room and work both ways. And end the field with full width boards. Then trim the ends and consider sanding or routing a micro bevel on those.

To add your own micro bevel. You can take a roller and roll across the cut end. Thus, crushing the wood, and most finishes will not break and will be rolled down with the wood.

You will have to work to determine the amount you can crush with the desired effect and how much the finish can take before breaking. But this will help reduce the distraction of the cut ends butting factory edges.

Always have a file on hand, lightly create our own micro bevel if you HAVE to and then touch up with stain and finish. I say ONLY if you have to, otherwise I agree with Gary
